Mixing records is an art; a talent that New York City’s DJ Yonny has infinitely mastered. By way of Delaware /Philadelphia, Yonny has quickly made a name for himself as a versatile DJ. The Colombian and Puerto Rican mixer is notorious for his ability to read crowds and respond to their energy with the perfect mix, hence his official moniker „Mixmaster DJ Yonny.“ Crafting his technique at an early age, Yonny entered scratch competitions and made his mark as a battle DJ.The Mixmaster gained recognition along the East coast, competing in Guitar Center’s Spinoff and winning a regional competition for DMC DJ Championships. Taking his skill a step further, Yonny excelled in the Institute for Audio Research’s Audio Engineering, Music Recording, and Production programs. After earning a diploma from the institute, the native New Yorker taught DJ and radio production seminars, instilling his techniques to students, and went on to work at Fat Beats, a mecca in New York City for hip-hop music. At the record store, Yonny spun record release events for underground artists, including Masta Ace, Prince Paul and Immortal Technique. With diploma in hand, Yonny scored a gig at WWPR Power 105.1 FM to produce commercial spots on-air and work promotions. After several live guest appearances on the “Star and Bucwild Morning Show,” DJ Yonny was welcomed as the Associate Producer and On Air Mixer. Shortly after, Yonny was awarded his own mixshow on Power, titled “The List.” The Saturday night two-hour radio show gave him the flexibility and creativity to spin everything from hip-hop & reggae to house jams. Official ratings in 2008 acknowledged that The Mixmaster’s midnight timeslot was the highest rated mixshow of its kind. Besides his on-air DJ gig, Yonny also became a production engineer for Univision Radio. His love of hip-hop and Latino culture allowed him to seamlessly transition to the station. During his tenure at Power, he was the only Latino DJ on the station’s roster. Although hip-hop is his passion, reggae, rock, R&B, dance, house, salsa, merengue and every genre in between make up this DJ’s record playing abilities both on-air and off. In 2008, the music connoisseur reunited with the team that helped give him his start. Starting Febuary of 2008, Yonny held the Executive Producer role for “The Star and BucWild Morning Show,” on New York’s newest radio station, Pulse 87.7. Since then, Yonny has moved on to his own Friday night 10p.m. to 12a.m. mixshow, “Friday Night Fix.” The show is the number one rated mixshow on Pulse 87.7 since its inception in February 2008. Internet radio listeners can also tune in to hear Yonny weekly on AlistRadio.net. Each Wednesday from 6p.m. to 8p.m, he presents a seamless mix of rock, house, hip-hop and mashups on the „Mixmaster Hour +1.” Remixing and breaking records are also DJ Yonny’s specialties. During January and February 2009, Yonny had one of the highest downloads on CrooklynClan.net, a site featuring his remix of VP Records artist Mavado’s „I’m So Special.“ He bears credits to the official dance remixes of J Records artist Jamie Foxx’s “Blame It” as well as Nina Sky’s “On Some Bull ish”. Yonny also was the first DJ on New York radio to break rapper Kid Cudi’s “Day ‘N’ Night (Crooker’s Remix)” and DJ Class’ “Im the Ish,” playing both records on Pulse 87.7.” He featured original remixes on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Shade 45 station, while spinning records there for a hip-hop show. Accomplishments outside of radio also fill Yonny’s resume. He’s scratched records behind artists such as Nas, Christina Milian, Sean Paul and Fat Joe. Last year, besides being brought on to mix records for the Pepsi Blue Carpet Bash, the official Latin Grammy after party, Yonny was also selected to become an Xbox Influencer, a program which honors close to 50 New York City tastemakers. In early 2009, Crooklyn Clan also recruited Yonny to become a crew member. His remixes are officially accessible on Crooklynclan.net, a highly acclaimed remix site for elite DJs. DJ Yonny’s signature scratching capabilities can be heard in clubs throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, New Jersey and Long Island. Not only does this heavyweight consistently provide a refreshing blend of music, Mixmaster DJ Yonny guarantees to turn a first time listener into an avid fan and a dedicated one into a satisfied supporter.
